Are these tours ‘Gastronomic’?

Yes . . . for sure . . . if you’re inclinded towards the way I define gastronomy. For me, gastronomy isn’t limited to high-end food, but incorporates all aspects of food and how it works in the world. In every human society, food doesn’t exist in isolation. The food and drink of any country or region is really an expression of culture, history, society and even politics. To offer a few specifics relevant here in Scotland, on Food Miles trips we might try some artisan bread and talk about money, eat cheese and discuss rain, drink beer and consider shipbuilding, go walking across a smallholding while pondering immigration, find ourselves chatting about education in a community orchard or geo-politics with stallholders at a farmers’ market. Basically, there’s always a lot more to food than just something to eat.
