Introducing Food Miles

Food Miles offers small-group guided tours, walks and other explorations in Edinburgh, around Edinburgh and to other parts of Scotland. I use local food to help reveal local history, culture, communities, landscapes, stories, issues, challenges and politics.

Led by Edinburgh-based food writer, activist and educator Donald Reid, these aren’t primarily designed as ‘gourmet’ tours providing some idealised version of Scotland’s larder, nor ‘foraging’ trips learning about specific edible plants.

Food Miles tours are journeys lasting a few hours or a few days where the very natural human instincts for eating and moving on foot are entwined to allow participants to explore places and people, landscapes and lives, cities and communities. The food we’ll encounter will be good, but even more it will be interesting, connected, thought-provoking, stimulating and revealing. The miles we’ll cover needn’t be strenuous, but they’ll be rich and rewarding.
